Kids’ Chance of Virginia raises $50,000+ in college scholarships for VA students

Glen Allen, VA (July 8, 2016) – 100 golfers and more than 50 local and regional sponsors turned out last week to support Kids’ Chance of Virginia, a local non-profit organization that provides college scholarships to the children of Virginia workers who have been killed or injured in a workplace accident.

The event, in its fifth year, raised a record $53,000 for the charity and drew golfers from across the state and surrounding region. This year the organization will award 23 scholarships, totaling $115,000.

Kids’ Chance of Virginia Secretary & Treasurer, John Burke, thanked participants and sponsors, “On behalf of Kids’ Chance of Virginia, we would like to thank everyone involved with the 5th Annual Golf Classic. The tournament was a big success, thanks to the generosity of so many!

“This was our largest event since our inception and these young-adults, whose families have been affected by a serious work-related injury, will now have the opportunity to fulfill their educational dreams.”

Since it was founded in 2011, Kids’ Chance has provided scholarships for Virginia students and has consistently increased the number of scholarships they fund each year. The Virginia chapter of Kids’ Chance was founded by a group of companies involved in the Virginia workers’ compensation market. The group awards post-secondary scholarships to deserving high school graduates whose families have been greatly impacted by work related injuries.
